In a new campaign ad for his daughter Rep. Liz Cheney, former Vice President Dick Cheney doesn’t mince words about former President Donald Trump, calling him a “coward” and a “threat to our republic.”

“In the 246-year history of our country, there has never been a person who poses a greater threat to our Republic than Donald Trump,” Cheney, wearing a cowboy hat and looking straight into the camera, said in the ad. “He tried to steal the last election with lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters rejected him. He is a coward. A real man would not lie to his supporters.”

Wyoming polls show Liz Cheney trailing attorney Harriet Hageman in the GOP primaries to decide which Republican will be nominated for the general election in the scarlet state. Cheney, who is running for a fourth term in office, is the vice chair of the Jan. 6 select committee investigating Trump’s role in the United States Capitol riots over the former president’s efforts. to reverse his loss to Joe Biden in the 2020 election. .

Based on testimonials from several former members of the Trump administration, as well as from Republican election officials and lawmakers in states that Trump lost in 2020, the committee has argued that he knowingly made false claims that electoral fraud cost him the win. Dick Cheney agreed with that assessment in the ad for his daughter.

“He lost his election and he lost a lot. I know, he knows, and deep down I think most Republicans know,” said the former vice president. “Lynne [Liz Cheney’s mother] and I’m so proud of Liz for standing up for the truth, doing the right thing and honoring her oath to the Constitution when so many in our party are too scared to do that.”

Of his daughter’s role on the select committee, Cheney said, “There is nothing more important she will ever do than make the effort to ensure that Donald Trump never comes near the Oval Office again, and that she will succeed.” .”

Liz Cheney was one of the 10 House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump for “inciting insurgency” about his role in the United States Capitol riots. Wyoming’s Republican Party Immediately scolded her for that voiceand she was then stripped of her leadership role in the party by her fellow Republicans in Congress.

On Thursday afternoon, Trump had not yet responded to the new ad on his social media platform Truth Social.
