The 31-second video shows Hung informing Gonzalez’s colleagues at the time that he would be canceling him. Hung then ended his message with an original song.

Hi everyone, this is William Hung. Christopher is going to make the announcement to leave the current job in two weeks for a new job,” Hung says in the recording. “He’s found a new job, but he will miss you all. You are all amazing, so don’t give up to create the life you want.”

Speak with BuzzFeedLu said they were delighted to see Gonzalez’s former colleagues’ reactions to the modified video message, and that he received some private messages telling him what he was doing was “epic.”

We were both working from home and I was so excited to see the response knowing he dropped the ‘@here’ [notifying everyone on Slack]and I decided to film the reactions and answers in real time,” said Lu.

Chris immediately started receiving direct Slack messages from his various colleagues congratulating him and saying it was an ‘epic’ way to go,” she added.

In an interesting twist of fate, Gonzalez’s new hires had already seen the viral video, and some suspected that the new “Christopher” in their workplace could be the same person Hung was referring to in the clip.

A new co-worker had speculated that the video he had previously seen on TikTok was the new ‘Chris’ in their office, and Chris confirmed it,” Lu told BuzzFeed. “When his new boss found out, she proudly shared the video of her new team member in their work Slack, and people loved it. It was almost like a rite of passage.”

Lu also revealed that the song Hung sang in the adapted video was a surprise as Gonzalez never said anything about him in his request.

Chris never instructed or prompted William to sing – his original masterpiece was conceived all on his own,” said Lu. “Chris absolutely loves his new job and is delighted to have William Hung a part of that moment.”
